Sons of Confederate Veterans — Camp 78

Alexander H. Stephens, Camp 78, Americus, Georgia

Following the War Between the States, the surviving Southern soldiers came together to form a veterans organization known as the United Confederate Veterans [UCV]. The Sons of Confederate Veterans [SCV] is the heir to this legacy.

Formed in Richmond, Virginia in 1896, the SCV continues to serve as an historical, patriotic and non-political organization dedicated to insuring that a true history of the 1861-1865 period is preserved for future generations. SCV members take pride in being on the front lines in the fight to preserve the honor of the Confederate Soldier.

Today programs are ongoing at the local, state and national level of our organization. Our local Camp takes particular pride in marking Confederate soldiers graves, observing our annual Confederate Memorial Day celebration, honoring Capt Henry Wirz, and attending regular meetings where we have programs and discuss the military, political and cultural history of our region.
