Wounded four times in the war: June 25, 1862 at Kings School House, again at Malvern Hill July 1, 1862, Sharpsburg on Sept 17, 1862, and finally at Olustee on Feb 20, 1864.

He fought at Battle of the Crater on July 30. 1864, Deep Bottom Virginia Aug 16, 1864, where he was captured and sent to Fort Delaware as a POW.

Brown had this photograph taken when he was a 5th Sergeant with the SLG.
